EU-CONEXUS Virtual Race – Run for European Friendship

During the month of April it was celebrated the ‘EU-CONEXUS Virtual Race, Run for European Friendship’ a virtual international race open to all the members of the EU-CONEXUS university partners (Spain, Lithuania, Romania, Croatia, Greece, France, Germany, Ireland and Cyprus).

The race counted with a high participation of 419 runners (which 284 were students and 106 staff members) and almost reaching gender equality with 41% of women and 58% of men. Among the runners, there were highlighted participatiosn of Jean Marc Ogier, rector of La Rochelle University and Executive of EU-CONEXUS; Arturas Razbadauskas, rector of Klaipeda University; Cezar Vladut vice-rector of UTCB and several committed staff members from University of Zadar.

The event took place in virtual or long-distance mode, with the ‘Runatica’ platform, which through the Strava app, has registered the time and distance of a participant and thus classified it automatically. The platform is from a spanish company, and the event has been coordinated by the SAFD (Service of Physical Activity and Sports) of the Catholic University of Valencia.

This initiative was welcomed by the EU-CONEXUS community, and has provided a motivation to connect and play sports, which eventually influences our physical and mental health. Almost all the participating countries suffered severe restrictions due to the pandemic situation, with sporting and cultural events canceled, this was an opportunity to feel part of a race, and has been something very positive.

The final results were announced at the end of April, with finalists in two categories, male and female, and in three distances 4K, 7K and 10 K.
