Reproductive Biotechnology: Cell Assessment, Cryopreservation and Data Interpretation – 2nd Call

Reproductive Biotechnology: Cell Assessment, Cryopreservation and Data Interpretation – 2nd Call

Reproductive biotechnology is an important field in biomedical sciences. It connects cell biology, laboratory practice, fertility assessment, assisted reproduction, and fertility preservation. Reproductive cells and biological samples can provide useful information about reproductive health and fertility-related outcomes. Their evaluation is important both in research and in clinical laboratory practice.

This Student Research Hub introduces students to basic principles and selected applications of reproductive biotechnology. The main focus will be on reproductive cell assessment, sample processing, cryopreservation, quality control, and interpretation of laboratory data. The Hub is designed as a fully remote undergraduate activity and will combine online teaching, guided exercises, short quizzes, case-based discussion, and literature-based presentation.

During the sessions, students will become familiar with reproductive cell biology and the basic characteristics of gametes. They will also learn how biological samples are handled and processed in reproductive biotechnology and assisted reproduction workflows. Special attention will be given to cell assessment, semen parameters as an example of reproductive cell evaluation, cryopreservation principles, fertility preservation, and factors that may affect sample quality.

The Hub will also introduce students to the importance of quality control, accurate reporting, and data interpretation in biomedical laboratory practice. Environmental and lifestyle factors affecting reproductive health will be discussed through simple examples.

🌊 Could your future be connected to the sea? At “ 🌊 Could your future be connected to the sea?

At “Jūros GEN’as” (Sea Gene), held at @klaipedauniversity Wick on 25 September, school pupils explored the many paths the sea can open. Nearly 300 pupils registered for the event, which brought maritime careers to life through conversations, hands-on activities and humour from actor and keen sailor Giedrius Savickas.

At Klaipeda University’s stand, pupils examined Baltic Sea organisms under microscopes and discovered blue biotechnology. They also visited the Marine Research Institute, where they saw ship models being tested and learned how drones help measure emissions from ships.

The day showed that a future connected to the sea could mean working in research, engineering, environmental protection or many other fields. It might begin with a single question about what lies beneath the surface. 🔬
