European Funding: understanding the context & identifying opportunities

Short description of the course:

As public money is less easily available for researchers nowadays, securing funding has slowly become a prominent issue. This course is designed to explore the world of EU funding, with particular focus on competitive research calls for proposals. We will be looking to introduce the context, objectives and opportunities that come with EU-funded projects. As per the European Competence Framework for Researchers, managing research includes being able to mobilize resources and manage projects. In order to prepare aspiring researchers for the next steps of their career, our goal is to get them ready to contribute to EU funding applications.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Navigate the EU funding landscape
  • Identify and understand relevant calls for proposals
  • Use the appropriate language in the context of EU funding
  • Know what is expected in a Horizon Europe proposal
  • Understand strategic funding schemes, such as MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships

Ajaykanna Dhamotharakkannan, a Marine Transport Engineering student at Klaipeda University, did exactly that by joining the ๐—”๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐—น๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—•๐—น๐˜‚๐—ฒ ๐—˜๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ผ๐—บ๐˜† ๐— ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—บ๐—ฒ. This course also included a mobility at the @agricultural_university_athens.

According to him, this mobility broadened his scope by introducing biological research methods outside his main discipline.

Beyond the academic schedule, Athens itself became an important part of Ajaykanna's experience. From the #Acropolis and #Parthenon to the #Olympic #Stadium and the #National #Archaeological #Museum, the city wasn't just beautiful โ€“ it was also inspiring.

Throughout his stay in Greece, Ajaykanna also formed strong relationships with professors and fellow students, opening doors to potential cross-disciplinary collaboration in the future.

The D&E Academy โ€” part of the widerAdvance Facilityโ€™s tailored service portfolio โ€” supports beneficiaries in developing effective strategies to disseminate, exploit and validate research results, helping teams refine their value proposition and engage with potential early adopters.

To serve this purpose, the DART (Diabetes Augmented Reality Training) project involves a team
of partners from six countries.

Led by the @universidadcatolicavalencia ,DART supports people living with type I and II
diabetes by combining physical activity with digital tools.

Via an app that features an augmented reality trainer, insulin dose reminders and other
innovative tools, DART encourages safe and conscious daily movement. This European initiative
also supports the wider community around those affected by diabetes: educators, healthcare
professionals, and families. ๐Ÿค
