Environmental Anxiety and Coping: How Do Youth in Coastal Regions Cope with Climate Change?
This Student Research Hub project aims to investigate environmental (eco-) anxiety and coping strategies among young people in coastal regions, through a fully online international programme. Participants will learn the theoretical background in environmental psychology and climate anxiety, review existing scales, and engage in group assignments to co-design a questionnaire tailored to youth living near coasts. International student teams will explore cultural differences in coping strategies and draft a short theoretical essay to inform item writing. By the end of the project, students will deliver a provisional eco-anxiety measurement tool, a mini public awareness campaign proposal promoting healthy climate engagement, and team presentations at a student research webinar or EU-CONEXUS conference.
General learning outcomes
- Understand psychological constructs related to eco-anxiety and climate coping.
- Critically evaluate academic literature and existing measurement instruments.
- Work effectively in multicultural, online teams.
- Apply basic psychometric methods to questionnaire item writing and pilot testing.
- Communicate research proposals in English, both in written and oral form.
