Multidisciplinary oceanographic research

This Student Research Hub aims to provide basic knowledge for multidisciplinary oceanographic characterisation of a coastal area. Students will conduct it in practice, integrating physical, chemical, biological, and geological data to develop a comprehensive understanding of a coastal ecosystem.
General learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
- Identify and characterise benthic biocenoses along a coastal sector using a range of field and laboratory techniques.
- Analyse and interpret qualitative and quantitative data on biotic and abiotic factors characteristic of benthic ecosystems, and compare their findings to previous studies in the area.
- Evaluate seasonal variations in the physico-chemical and biological parameters of the water column using both in situ detection and laboratory methods.
