Gill parasites (Monogenea) of white fish (Leuciscidae) in waters of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
The gill worms (Monogenea) of three cyprinid fish species—roach (Rutilus rutilus), rudd (Scardinius erythrophthalmus), and white bream (Blicca bjoerkna)—were investigated in two bodies of water in Mecklenburg–Western Pomerania: Lake Hohensprenz and Lake Labus. The aim was to document the species spectrum, record new host and habitat associations, and analyse the parasite fauna with respect to host- and water body–specific similarities and differences.
General learning outcomes
- Comprehensive knowledge of standard parasitological examination methods and of monogenean parasite communities
- Application of various morphological and molecular identification methods
- Understanding of monogenean anatomy
- Improved skills in literature searching and reference management
- Improved skills in data analysis and data visualisation
- Improved scientific writing and presentation skills
