In October 2025, Frederick University brought its campuses to life with the vibrant “Unifest & Welcome Party” in both Nicosia and Limassol, offering students an engaging introduction to university life while highlighting the wide-ranging opportunities available through EU-CONEXUS.
Held on 7 and 10 October, the event gathered around 600 students across both campuses, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and Erasmus participants. Designed as a welcoming and inclusive start to the academic year, the festival blended entertainment with meaningful engagement, allowing students to explore academic, social, and international opportunities in an interactive setting.
A Lively Introduction to Campus Life and European Opportunities
The event aimed not only to welcome students but also to ease their transition into university life by connecting them with key services, student clubs, and international initiatives. Through dedicated information points and interactive activities, students were introduced to the EU-CONEXUS alliance and the IamStudent Erasmus+ project, gaining insight into mobility programmes, intercultural exchanges, and opportunities for personal and academic development.
From the Counselling Centre and Career Office to the Mobility and Sports Offices, university services were actively present, offering guidance and encouraging students to take full advantage of campus resources. Student clubs and representatives further enriched the experience by showcasing avenues for involvement and leadership.
Engagement Through Interaction and Experience
A key strength of the event was its interactive and informal atmosphere. Students participated in quizzes, games, and competitions — such as matching EU-CONEXUS countries with their languages — while also engaging directly with staff and student ambassadors. These activities, combined with giveaways and promotional materials, made learning about the alliance both accessible and enjoyable.
The inclusion of the IamStudent photo contest added an extra layer of creativity and participation, encouraging students to connect with the European dimension of their studies in a fun and engaging way.
Building Community and Strengthening Connections
Beyond raising awareness, the festival fostered a strong sense of belonging among participants. By embedding EU-CONEXUS within a high-energy, student-centred event at the very start of the academic year, the university successfully positioned it as an integral part of the student experience.
Collaboration played a crucial role in the event’s success, with over 15 contributors — including university staff, student ambassadors, and external partners — working together to deliver a well-coordinated and impactful initiative.
Inspiring Future Participation
The Unifest & Welcome Party demonstrated how combining information with engagement can effectively inspire students to explore international opportunities. The enthusiasm and active participation observed throughout the event reflected a genuine interest in mobility, cultural exchange, and involvement in the wider European university network.
As part of the IamStudent project, the initiative highlighted the importance of accessible, student-driven communication in promoting EU-CONEXUS opportunities — encouraging students to take their first steps toward becoming active members of a connected European academic community.
