Quality analyses in aquaculture 1st Call

Quality analyses in aquaculture is an interdisciplinary topic that draws on biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, and various other disciplines to ensure sustainability in aquaculture whilst meeting consumer and regulatory demands. Various practices and developments in this topic play a crucial role in promoting responsible and environmentally friendly aquaculture practices.

Some of the main scientific approaches to quality analysis in aquaculture involve:

  • Chemical parameters: ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, etc.
  • Biological parameters: assessing the presence and abundance of plankton, algae, and bacteria helps determine the health of the aquatic ecosystem.
  • Nutrient Analysis: monitoring the nutrient content of fish and aquafeed is essential for ensuring optimal growth and health.
  • Research and Data Analysis: collecting and analyzing data, evaluating the results, conducting statistical analyses allows to draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Ecological and Sustainability Analysis: assessing the ecological and environmental impact of aquaculture systems, as the Aquaculture emissions footprint.

Learning outcomes:

  • Acquire knowledge on basic techniques used in Aquaculture
  • Record data
  • Analyze and compare data
  • Evaluate results
  • Combine information
  • Develop laboratory skills
  • Discuss issues related to sustainability in Aquaculture

Last week, @univlarochelle welcomed EU-CONEXUS students for the mobility week of the Minor in Entrepreneurship “Innovation around Sustainable Tourism”.

During this intensive course, students from across the Alliance worked in teams to develop innovative service, product or concept ideas, guided by creativity exercises, collaborative challenges and entrepreneurial workshops organised with @opencampusinnov , La Rochelle Université’s innovation hub.

Alongside project work, participants also had the opportunity to discover the local ecosystem. The course included a lunch and visit to @les_cabanes_urbaines , an eco-responsible community hub dedicated to sustainable food and local initiatives.

The week concluded with a final pitch session, where students presented the projects they had developed throughout the course. Participants also visited @lamatiere , a circular economy and reuse innovation hub bringing together citizens, organisations and businesses to experiment with low-impact and resource-efficient solutions.

Following this mobility week in La Rochelle, students will now continue the Minor through synchronous and asynchronous courses on Moodle, further developing their entrepreneurial skills within the EU-CONEXUS learning community.

A great example of how EU-CONEXUS connects students, innovation and entrepreneurship across Europe.

A lesser-known fact is that, in Ireland, autumn-sown oats can yield up to three times the global average.

As Europe seeks to become more independent in protein production, farmers and scientists are raising a solid question: where does this oat productivity come from, and can we replicate it elsewhere?
