Structure, Services and Innovation: The Role of the Mathematics & Computer Science Department at UTCB in Engineering Education
Short description of what will be presented during the seminar:
The seminar “Structure, Services and Innovation: The Role of the Mathematics & Computer Science Department at UTCB in Engineering Education” presents the comprehensive academic, scientific, and educational activities coordinated by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (DMI) at the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest (UTCB). As a cornerstone of the university’s academic structure, DMI plays a crucial role in developing the analytical and computational competencies of future engineers through a wide range of courses, seminars, and laboratories in Mathematics, Computer Science, Numerical Analysis, Operational Research, and Applied Statistics.
The presentation will highlight the organisational structure of the department, its teaching staff, and its academic offer designed to support all engineering programmes at UTCB. It will also showcase the Digital and Online Library Services, which provide open access to educational resources, lecture notes, tutorials, and research materials, enhancing accessibility and promoting modern, student-centred learning.
A special focus will be given to the Research Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science (CCMI), coordinated by the department. The Centre fosters interdisciplinary research, scientific collaboration, and innovation across engineering, mathematics, and computational fields, contributing actively to both national and international research initiatives.
The seminar will also feature the department’s annual international conference, the International Conference on Mathematics and Computer Science in Technical Education (ICMCSTE), and its academic journal, the Romanian Journal of Mathematics and Computer Science (RJM-CS). Both serve as valuable platforms for disseminating high-quality research and encouraging collaboration among scholars, educators, and engineers.
Finally, the session will illustrate how DMI integrates modern pedagogical methods such as Project-Based Learning (PBL), Service-Learning (SL), and Case-Based Learning (CBL) into engineering education, fostering problem-solving, innovation, and community engagement. By combining theoretical rigour with practical application, the department fulfils its mission to connect mathematics, computer science, and engineering within a dynamic ecosystem of innovation, cultivating creative, ethical, and digitally skilled engineers ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow’s world.
