Navigating Parenthood: How Perfectionism and Identity Shape Burnout and Parental Adjustment

Parental burnout affects 5–9% of parents today, reflecting the growing pressures of modern parenting and child care. This seminar explores how parental perfectionism—whether self-imposed, socially expected, or directed toward children—and parental identity influence burnout and adjustment in the parental role. While perfectionistic tendencies can increase stress and undermine well-being, a clear parental identity may provide purpose, resilience, and better coping. We will discuss how these factors interact and their implications for supporting parents in balancing challenges and resources in contemporary parenting.
