Marine mammals and vessel noise: Exposure and impacts

Underwater radiated noise emitted from commercial ships and other vessels can negatively impact aquatic species and their ecosystems, potentially threatening their survival. This talk aims to provide an overview on how to assess exposure and impacts of vessel noise on a particularly vulnerable animal group: marine mammals. Several case studies will be highlighted and an outlook on the most promising solutions for reducing the impacts of underwater radiated noise from ships will be presented.
