Identification and selection of hydrocarbon-degrading microorganisms from the Baltic Sea for oil spill clean-up
Short description of what will be presented during the seminar:
Hydrocarbon-polluted areas in the Baltic Sea harbour diverse microbial communities adapted to utilising hydrocarbons as a carbon source. Such microorganisms can be applied in processes like bioremediation. Thorough biochemical and DNA sequence-based analyses, combined with metabolic pathway characterisation and pathogenicity assessment, offer guided selection of the most suitable microbial strains for environmental clean-up.
