Background

EU‐CONEXUS is a transnational European higher education and research institution for Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability. It creates a unique way of studying and carrying out research through institutional alignment and seamless mobility for all. The partners of the Alliance are La Rochelle Université, Agricultural University of Athens, Catholic University of Valencia, Klaipeda University, University of Zadar, Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest, South East Technological University, University of Rostock and Frederick University.

The EU-CONEXUS Plus project supports the invitation of excellent visiting researchers on SmUCS topics from outside the Alliance to partner institutions. This call for invitation of external experts is a competitive call.

Eligibility

WHO:
Researchers/experts from institutions (universities, research institutes and companies) outside the EU-CONEXUS Alliance. About 15 visits of external experts can be supported per year.

WHAT:
Research and/or training activities at EU-CONEXUS Universities, key lectures in the conferences organised by the EU-CONEXUS Alliance. Presentations of the guests can be made publicly available within EU-CONEXUS as streamed scientific talks/lectures.

DURATION:
Between 3 and 10 working days (except transfer days).

Mobilities in this call can be realised until 31 December 2023.

Reimbursement

Reimbursement of travel costs will be done according the internal policy of purchases of EUCONEXA. EU-CONEXA is a Belgian non-profit association managing common funds for the Alliance members.

Financial support may not be used to cover similar expenses financed by other funds.

Researchers with disabilities/special needs can request additional grant support. A person with special needs is a potential participant whose individual physical, mental or health-related situation is such that his/her participation in the mobility would not be possible without extra financial support. Researchers should indicate the needs and foreseen extra costs linked to your physical, mental or health-related conditions. Areas that could be eligible for support, according to individual needs, include but are not limited to: adapted accommodation, travel assistance, medical attendance, supportive equipment, adaption of learning material, an accompanying person, etc. Eligibility and funding criteria will follow the Erasmus+ and/or national rules or university rules.

Application

The applications must be submitted by the inviting institution.

Applications shall contain:

  • Application form with the contact details, objectives, expected results, and working plan;
  • Confirmation of the external expert;
  • CV of the external expert.

The applications can be submitted to externalexperts@eu-conexus.eu any time until 15 September 2023. All mobility activities in this call have to be finalised until 31 December 2023.

For the EU-CONEXUS Research Conference in Rostock: each partner university can fill the application form as host institution and invite external experts to the conference. The applications for this conference can be submitted to externalexperts@eu-conexus.eu any time before 31 October 2023.

Selection process

A Review Panel consisting of representatives from partner universities jointly evaluate the applications on two dates (June and September). The list of selected guest researchers will be presented to the Research Council.

The selection is based on criteria guaranteeing a fair evaluation of the applications and does not give priority to any applicant depending on his/her nationality, race, religion or gender.

The following criteria will be considered for the selection of the mobility activities

  1. Overall objectives, expected results (max. 5 points)
  2. SmUCS research-related teaching/lecturing content (max. 5 points)
  3. Partnerships, collaborative efforts, benefits for the Alliance (max. 5 points)

The application documents should be prepared in such a way that an evaluation can be made with regard to the above-mentioned criteria.

In case of equal points, the priority will be given to associated partners of the alliance and less represented gender.

The decision will be made no later than 15 days after the application deadline and will be sent to the applicants by e-mail. The selected candidates will be informed about further procedures.

In case of any objection in any stage of the application and selection process, the applicant may file his/her appeal to Coordination Committee (cc@eu-conexus.eu).

After selection/during mobility:

Visits of the experts may be announced on the website of EU-CONEXUS

It is compulsory to include the EU-CONEXUS logos in all presentations, documents and materials prepared. Posts in social media shall include #EUCONEXUS.

After mobility:

All invited experts must submit a short report which can be published on the website or social media channels of EU-CONEXUS. Presentations can be made publicly available within EU-CONEXUS as streamed scientific talks/lectures.

Privacy statement:

Each applicant consents that his/her personal data may be used by the EU-CONEXUS alliance in order to manage the application for mobility and all the corresponding administrative steps. The personal data will be used solely for statistical and reporting reasons within the EU-CONEXUS alliance or for reporting to the European Commission purposes.
