The Evolution of Agrobiodiversity
Short description of what will be presented during the seminar:
In this seminar, the effects of plant domestication on the genomes and metabolomes of crops will be discussed. The co-evolution of plants and humans has profoundly shaped human history and led to significant changes in the plants used for food and medicine. The traits and genes selected during the domestication process will be presented, along with an explanation of how these choices have influenced the diversity and resilience of modern crops. Finally, current approaches for studying domestication will be summarised, and it will be shown how this knowledge can be used to develop new crops and mitigate the detrimental effects of past domestication strategies.
