Student Field Trip | 18โ€“25 August

Ready to make a real impact while exploring the coast?

Clean Coast Connection is a fully funded international student field trip focused on marine conservation and coastal clean-ups, bringing together students from EU-CONEXUS partner universities.

From 18 to 25 August, selected participants will travel from Zadar to Athens and take part in a unique, hands-on experience combining environmental action, education, and adventure.

What to expect

Guide for the itinerary

Day 1:

Zadar, Croatia

Arrival in Zadar, Croatia

  • Welcome and orientation session for all participants.
  • Safety briefing and introduction to the local coastal and marine environment.
  • Group planning and local orientation in Zadar.
  • Team-building icebreakers and informal coastal walk.

Day 2:

Zadar, Croatia

Workshop with Zadar University Diving Club and coastal clean up with local students

  • Full-day interactive workshop with the university diving club on diving safety, underwater clean-up methods and responsible coastal recreation.
  • Ambassador coordinated coastal clean up in Zadar, open to local students and student associations, using the draft protocols.

Day 3:

Zadar, Croatia

Diving experience with Zadar University Diving Club

  • Practical exercises and introduction to diving experience.
  • Group reflection and preparation of inputs for the coastal cleaning toolkit and club

Day 4:

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Travel to Dubrovnik, Croatia

  • Morning transfer to Split by bus.
  • Group bonding activities and project discussions.
  • Afternoon transfer to Dubrovnik via ferry and accommodation arrangements.

Day 5:

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Workshop on marine biodiversity with Green Safari

  • Interactive session on biodiversity preservation with NIB experts (educational, not research-based).
  • Discussion on marine ecosystems, human impacts and good practices for protection.

Day 6:

Athens, Greece

Travel to Athens, Greece

  • Morning transfer to Athens, Greece by flight.
  • Team-building activities and informal cultural exchange with local students.

Day 7:

Athens, Greece

Snorkelling Cleanup & Outreach with local students

  • Fieldwork: snorkelling-based coastal clean-up by boat excursion.
  • Practical collection and sorting of underwater litter and shoreline waste with local students.
  • Short outreach activity (photo/video and social media content prepared by students).

Day 8:

Project Dissemination and Return

  • Reflective wrap-up session, including planning of the EU-CONEXUS coastal cleaning club and first follow-up actions at home universities.

Departure and return to home institutions

Who can apply?

You can apply if you:

  • Are enrolled at an EU-CONEXUS partner university
  • Are available for the full duration (18โ€“25 August)
  • Are able (or willing) to obtain a medical clearance certificate for diving

Why apply?

Selected students will not only participate โ€” they will become student ambassadors, bringing coastal conservation initiatives back to their home universities.

Participants will be selected on a one-student-per-university basis, ensuring diverse international representation.
