The workshop provided participants with an overview of the Joint European Degree Label, its purpose and significance for European higher education. Particular attention was given to the benefits of the Label for students, higher education institutions and other stakeholders, as well as the requirements that joint programmes must meet and the application process for obtaining it.
The session was led by Neringa Narbutienė and Professor Amanda Sancho Garcia from the Catholic University of Valencia (UCV), who shared their expertise and insights into the development of joint European study programmes.
Learning from good practice: the Joint Master Programme in Marine Biotechnology
A key part of the workshop was dedicated to an example of good practice: the EU-CONEXUS Joint Master Programme in Marine Biotechnology (JMPMB), which has successfully obtained the Joint European Degree Label.
The presentation offered participants an opportunity to learn from the programme’s experience and explore how the Label’s requirements can be addressed in practice. The example highlighted the importance of international cooperation and the joint development and delivery of study programmes in strengthening the European dimension of higher education.
The experience of the Joint Master Programme in Marine Biotechnology also illustrated how European university alliances can contribute to the development of high-quality, integrated study opportunities that bring together the expertise and strengths of partner institutions.
Supporting the development of joint study programmes
The workshop was particularly relevant for colleagues working in quality assurance, study programme development and the coordination of joint programmes. By combining an overview of the Label’s requirements with a practical example, the session aimed to help participants understand the steps involved in developing joint programmes that meet the relevant European criteria.
The initiative reflects EU-CONEXUS’s commitment to strengthening cooperation among partner universities and supporting the continuous development of innovative, internationally integrated study programmes.
“The workshop provided a valuable opportunity to better understand how the Joint European Degree Label requirements can be translated into the practical development of joint study programmes. The experience shared through the Joint Master Programme in Marine Biotechnology was particularly useful, as it demonstrated the value of close cooperation among partner institutions in creating high-quality, internationally integrated learning opportunities.”
