From 22 to 26 June 2026, La Rochelle Université welcomed participants from across the EU-CONEXUS Alliance for the Micro-credentials Summer School: Digital Methods for Language and Data. Bringing together students and academics from several partner universities, the programme combined specialised teaching, collaborative learning and intercultural exchange.
Throughout the week, participants attended classes led by Li Ping Varley (SETU), Pierre-Henry De Bruyn, Jean-Loup Guillaume and Nicolas Sidère (LR UNIV), exploring digital approaches to language and data analysis while developing new academic and professional skills.
Beyond the classroom, the Summer School encouraged participants to connect through a social evening, shared meals and a guided tour of La Rochelle. These informal moments played an important role in strengthening connections between students from different countries.
Reflecting on the experience, Aaron O’Connor described the modules as “very enjoyable, interesting and very valuable for future learning“, adding that they “add a lot personally and to a CV.” He also highlighted the dinner organised by La Rochelle Université as one of the week’s highlights, offering participants the opportunity to get to know one another in a relaxed setting.
This edition also took place during an exceptional heatwave, with temperatures ranging from 38°C to 43°C in La Rochelle. Despite these unusual conditions, the programme ran successfully thanks to the commitment of the organisers, teaching staff and participants.
As Eleni Karyoti from the Agricultural University of Athens noted, although the high temperatures made some classes more challenging, the opportunity to meet students from across Europe and learn from supportive professors made the experience especially rewarding.
The Summer School concluded with a farewell lunch, giving participants the opportunity to reflect on a week of learning, collaboration and cultural discovery.
By combining academic expertise with international exchange, the EU-CONEXUS Micro-credentials Summer School once again illustrated how European cooperation enriches the student experience while helping learners develop skills for an increasingly interconnected world.
