Martin Huslรญk, a second-year International Business student at South East Technological University (SETU), recently travelled to Strasbourg to attend the European Student Assembly (ESA) 2026.
The European Student Assembly (ESA) is an annual flagship initiative of the EUC Voices Erasmus+ project, bringing together approximately 250 students from European University Alliances, including EU-CONEXUS, to discuss key issues shaping the future of Europe. Selected students join one of eight discussion panels and work collaboratively through a series of online and in-person sessions to develop policy recommendations.
The process culminated in a three-day assembly at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, which took place from 20โ22 April 2026. Participants had the opportunity to develop and present policy recommendations, contributing to a more inclusive and democratic Europe.
Martin attended the event through funding provided by the EU-CONEXUS mobility programme. Having completed an online micro-credential, he represented both SETU and EU-CONEXUS at the Assembly.
Martin participated in Panel 8, which focused on the strategic autonomy of the European Union. Working with an international group of students, he helped develop policy recommendations on this topic through discussions, workshops and collaborative drafting sessions.
Skill Development
Reflecting on the experience, Martin highlighted the valuable skills he developed through his participation in ESA.
“The mobility strengthened my understanding of EU policymaking and strategic challenges, while improving my teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills in an intercultural environment.”
He also noted the wider benefits of the experience:
“I contributed to concrete policy proposals and expanded my international network. The experience was highly beneficial for my academic and professional development.”
Encouraging Others to Get Involved with EU-CONEXUS
EU-CONEXUS supported Martin by organising his travel arrangements and covering the associated costs, which he said “made my participation in the European Student Assembly 2026 in Strasbourg possible.”
He added:
“As my university is part of the EU-CONEXUS alliance, I had the opportunity to represent both SETU and EU-CONEXUS. I was delighted to do so and would encourage all students to explore the opportunities available through EU-CONEXUS.”
