Klaipeda University (KU) researcher Robertas Jurkus has started a 12-month EU-CONEXUS ENABLES postdoctoral mobility project in collaboration with South East Technological University (SETU), Ireland, and the Walton Institute.

The project is being carried out together with Dr Lizy Abraham and the Emerging Networks Lab at the Walton Institute, under the joint supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr Mindaugas Kurmis. The research focuses on Artificial Intelligence, Digital Twin technologies, and maritime traffic analytics, aiming to advance safer and smarter coastal maritime systems. A key component of the initiative is a three-month research mobility period in Ireland, which will strengthen scientific cooperation and knowledge exchange between KU, SETU, and the Walton Institute. The collaboration brings together complementary expertise in maritime technologies, AI-driven systems, and digital innovation.

The joint research project, titled “AI-Based Recognition of Coastal Vessel Interaction Patterns Using Digital Twin”, aims to develop innovative vessel interaction and anomaly detection models using AI-powered Digital Twin technologies. The initiative combines KU’s maritime expertise with SETU’s strengths in Artificial Intelligence and digital systems. According to Dr Lizy Abraham, the collaboration reflects a shared vision of advancing intelligent maritime monitoring and strengthening long-term international research partnerships. Beyond the scientific objectives, the project also supports future Horizon Europe and international initiatives while fostering stronger professional and cultural connections within the European research community.

The mobility programme represents an important opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration, international knowledge exchange, and the development of sustainable research networks between Lithuania and Ireland.

All activities are organised under the EU-funded project EU-CONEXUS ENABLES (Project number: 101136822), titled Promoting Excellence Through Innovative Eco-systems.
