South East Technological University (SETU) hosted the AHECS Southeast Regional Gathering on 9 December, 2025, bringing together careers and work placement professionals from across Ireland to explore how ERASMUS+ Key Action 2 initiatives are transforming student and staff experiences, mobility, and employability.
Representing SETU, Dr Rebecca Power presented EU-CONEXUS, the European University Alliance uniting nine universities to advance smart urban coastal sustainability. Her session highlighted SETUโs leadership role within the EU-CONEXUS Career Network, which connects students, staff, employers and alumni across Europe through shared careers events, staff development, the alliance-wide careers platform JobTeaser, and initiatives such as the newly launched EU-CONEXUS Alumni Network.
The event also featured presentations on DETAS (University of Limerick), ENLIGHT (University of Galway), and UNIC (University College Cork), each offering a glimpse into how Irish universities are contributing to Europe-wide transformation in higher education.
Angela Collins, Head of Careers at SETU Waterford, who co-organised the event with Dr Colm Cunniffe of the University of Limerick, reflected on the importance of showcasing these initiatives:
โERASMUS+ Key Action 2 gives Irish universities a strong platform to collaborate, innovate, and broaden the opportunities available to our students and staff. Events like this highlight how SETU and our partners are shaping a new era of international learning and employability.โ
The gathering reinforced the shared mission across AHECS members: to ensure that students in Ireland benefit fully from the opportunities, networks, and experiences created through European partnerships like EU-CONEXUS.
