The EU CONEXUS Office for Development of Study Offers (ODSO) organised two workshops on developing courses that award micro-credentials on November 26 and 27, 2025. Led by Prof. Slaven Zjalić, ODSO leader and professor at the University of Zadar (UNIZD), these sessions gathered participants from universities across the EU CONEXUS alliance.
The workshops provided a comprehensive understanding of micro-credentials as certifications of focused learning achievements assessed by transparent standards to meet lifelong learning, upskilling, and reskilling needs. The theoretical part covered key EU criteria such as learning outcomes, ECTS workload, EQF levels 6-7, assessment methods, quality assurance, and considerations like prerequisites and stackability.
During practical group activities, participants developed multidisciplinary micro-credential course proposals related to urban coastal sustainability, detailing course titles, objectives, learning outcomes, enrolment requirements, and modular structures to address diverse learner backgrounds.
Discussions emphasised collaboration with stakeholders, quality assurance guidelines, financing models, and integration of micro-credentials into existing study programmes. Participants also exchanged knowledge and strategies for creating transparent, flexible, and highly relevant course offers using tools like the EU Online Credential Builder.
Following the workshops, all attendees received Certificates of Participation recognising their enhanced skills in micro-credential course development. The success of these workshops encourages additional sessions supporting EU-CONEXUS goals in entrepreneurial, green, and digital skills.
Reflecting on the value of these workshops, professor Mirna Sindičić Sabljo, PhD, noted:
“The workshop was highly informative and well-structured. It enabled me to deepen my understanding of micro-qualifications, their design, and the accreditation process.”
