The Student Board serves as the representative body for students across all EU-CONEXUS partner institutions. It actively participates in strategic decision-making processes at all levels and implements initiatives focused on student engagement. Student Board members contribute to the Governing Board, Executive Council, Academic Council, and Research Council, ensuring that student perspectives are included in key governance matters.

Over the past 12 months, Ashkan and John have represented SETU at meetings, advocating for student-related issues and contributing to the development of EU-CONEXUS activities.

Reflecting on this nomination, Ashkan Dehghan commented, “I am most pleased to receive the President’s Volunteering Award of SETU. It is a meaningful acknowledgement of my work with the EU CONEXUS Student Board and Research Council. It also reinforces the value of contributing to collaborative European initiatives and strengthens my commitment to representing students at an international level.”

John, who is currently in his final year of university at SETU, added, “Volunteering for and representing students in EU-CONEXUS has been an amazing experience that I am so proud to be a part of. Receiving the President’s Awards means so much, knowing that my volunteering work and that of my colleagues to create a stronger European University alliance is being recognised. That makes it all the more rewarding.”

Siobhan Rudden, Institutional Co-ordinator for EU-CONEXUS at SETU, noted, “John and Ashkan have been amazing representatives of SETU on the EU-CONEXUS Student Board, and I am delighted that their hard work is being represented through the President’s Award. Their engagement in regular meetings has given us an invaluable insight into the views of students on things like developing joint education and research opportunities for the EU-CONEXUS partners. I wish them all the best.”

Volunteering not only benefits the university community but also helps students grow their leadership and professional skills while earning recognition through the President’s Volunteer Award. During their time on the Student Board, John and Ashkan have built meaningful skills and experience that will support them long after they leave SETU.
