Description:

🌊 Could your future be connected to the sea? At “ 🌊 Could your future be connected to the sea? At “Jūros GEN’as” (Sea Gene), held at @klaipedauniversity Wick on 25 September, school pupils explored the many paths the sea can open. Nearly 300 pupils registered for the event, which brought maritime careers to life through conversations, hands-on activities and humour from actor and keen sailor Giedrius Savickas. At Klaipeda University’s stand, pupils examined Baltic Sea organisms under microscopes and discovered blue biotechnology. They also visited the Marine Research Institute, where they saw ship models being tested and learned how drones help measure emissions from ships. The day showed that a future connected to the sea could mean working in research, engineering, environmental protection or many other fields. tudent Research Hubs in Action at the Department o tudent Research Hubs in Action at the Department of Pharmacy, @frederick_university 🧪🔬 The Department of Pharmacy at Frederick University Cyprus welcomed undergraduate students from EU-CONEXUS partner universities for the in-person phase of two Student Research Hubs: 🧪 Smart Polymeric Materials for Biomedical Applications: Synthesis, Characterization and Drug Delivery, mentored by Dr Maria Rikkou-Kalourkoti, introduced students to polymeric biomaterials and their biomedical applications, with a focus on the design, synthesis, characterization, and evaluation of advanced materials for controlled drug delivery. 🌿 Enzyme Inhibitory Activity in Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, mentored by Dr Despina Charalambous, focused on the extraction, characterization, and biological evaluation of bioactive compounds from medicinal and aromatic plants, with a focus on phenolic compounds, flavonoids, antioxidant activity, and enzyme inhibition. The Alliance’s Student Research Hubs (SRH) initiative brings together students and researchers for two months to work collaboratively on real scientific challenges. Working alongside fourth-year Pharmacy students from Frederick University, the students participated in hands-on laboratory work, data analysis, scientific discussions, and team-based activities, in an intensive week of collaborative, research-based learning.
