🧊 As the ice continues to melt in the Arctic, c 🧊 As the ice continues to melt in the Arctic, changing landscapes are a clear sign of global warming. But for scientists, the new natural formations paint an image of what a post-ice age world might have looked like.

🥶What happens in places that have been frozen for millennia — and are only now waking up?

The research team from @klaipedauniversity Marine Research Institute is on the ground in the European Arctic every year. Equipped with sonar devices, sensors, and inflatable boats, they’re mapping a new lagoon that may shape the future of Arctic biodiversity.

Could these newborn ecosystems offer an example of resilience under pressure?

📢 Reminder for all EU-CONEXUS teachers and pupi 📢 Reminder for all EU-CONEXUS teachers and pupils!

We are pleased to remind you that registrations for the EU-CONEXUS School Contest “Think Smart, Create Green” are open until 28 November 2025 (23:59 CET).

This exciting competition invites pupils to think creatively and critically about sustainability and innovation in coastal urban environments — the very essence of Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability #SmUCS.

Here are just a few reasons why your participation matters:

🔹The contest aims to raise awareness among pupils about sustainability, coastal and urban ecosystems, and circular economy principles, while strengthening their sense of responsibility toward the environment.
🔹It serves as a bridge between secondary education and university life, encouraging pupils to explore STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and potential career paths related to them.
🔹Participants gain valuable educational and personal benefits — critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, public speaking, and international communication skills — as well as a deeper understanding of entrepreneurship, innovation, and civic engagement.
🔹 For teachers, the contest is an opportunity to collaborate across disciplines, develop project management skills, and engage with innovative teaching methods in connection with the EU-CONEXUS Alliance’s broader academic and research initiatives.
🔹The competition theme — circular economy, environmental sustainability, and innovative solutions for coastal-urban communities — challenges students to turn their ideas into tangible contributions for a greener future.

🌍 By taking part in “Think Smart, Create Green,” pupils and teachers become active contributors to the transformation toward a sustainable society.

🗓 Deadline for registration: 28 November 2025

Don’t miss this opportunity! Register your team today, share your innovative ideas, and help build a smarter, greener future together! More info in comments section.

⛴️ EU-CONEXUS Minor students explore energy tr ⛴️ EU-CONEXUS Minor students explore energy transition in shipping at @klaipedauniversity

This week Klaipeda University hosted students of the EU-CONEXUS Minor in “Energy Transition in Shipping: LNG” programme.

Throughout the week, participants explored how innovation and sustainability shape the maritime industry — from lectures on energy transition to practical insights during visits to Klaipeda Seaport Authority and KN Energies.

👋 At KN Energies, students were welcomed by Martynas Ambrozaitis, Head of FSRU “Independence” Operations, who introduced the company’s LNG activities and led an insightful tour of the Small-Scale LNG Terminal.

The programme, coordinated by Prof. Vytautas Paulauskas (KU), combined academic learning with hands-on experiences and cultural exchange — highlighting how collaboration between universities and industry fosters a more sustainable maritime future.

“Yes – the Baltic Sea is sick. But painkillers “Yes – the Baltic Sea is sick. But painkillers won’t heal it,” says Sergej Suzdalev, senior researcher at @klaipedauniversity Marine Research Institute.

🐟🧫 We’ve all heard of microplastics in our seas by now, but research shows we have much more coming. Sergej is focusing on one such issue – invisible pollution caused by the residue of painkillers.

Used for everything from minor headaches to chronic pain, painkillers leave a trace not just in seawater but also in the fish that feed the local communities.

What if we could create change, together❓
