Scholarly Podcasting
Dates & timetable:
Podcasting is a digital media form that continues to grow in audience reach and size year on year. In parallel, scholarly podcasting – the use of the medium in academic learning and communication contexts – is also gaining traction. Scholarly podcasts are typically available through open-access platforms.
This module equips postgraduate students with both the conceptual understanding and practical skills required to use podcasting as a tool for scholarly communication and dissemination. Students will explore the affordances of podcasting for public engagement, research dissemination, and storytelling within academic contexts. The module examines the development of podcasting as a medium from both listener and creator perspectives.
Description:
Through guided activities and hands-on production work, participants will design, record, and publish a short podcast episode aimed at a defined public or academic audience. Free or open-source software tools will be used wherever possible.
