Environmental Sustainability in Education

This module supports students to develop practical and actionable approaches for addressing sustainability in educational contexts. It provides a background to current and emerging understanding of sustainability, and existing policies and initiatives concerning sustainability in the education sector.
It equips students with the skills to develop and implement sustainability policies and actions at school, institutional and/or community level, and to connect these local actions with the global movement for sustainability. It also facilitates students to develop a confident and nuanced approach to addressing the complexities of sustainability.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module, a student will be able to:
- Synthesise current literature and research in order to identify sustainability challenges and opportunities within an educational context.
- Critically evaluate existing policies and initiatives in relation to sustainability in the education sector, from a local to global perspective.
- Critically reflect on sustainability with an empathetic and social justice-oriented approach in order to successfully navigate the complexities of the topic.
- Critically reflect on sustainability within their own educational context and from their own perspective as an educator.
- Utilise a co-creation approach to develop and implement sustainability policies and initiatives within their own educational context.
