Description:
The micro-credential deals with problems of global externalities, in particular greenhouse gas emissions, from an economic perspective. On the one hand, it examines the relevant sectors in which greenhouse gas emissions arise, including the competitive structures prevailing there. On the other hand, it presents and compares approaches to internalizing global externalities and discusses the economic challenges that arise in this context.
The international dimension of the environmental problem, i.e., globally active environmental pollutants and the connection between economic globalization and environmental issues, is also addressed. Target learners are Masters students with a background in economics or related fields. A background in applied microeconomics and in empirical methods for economists or equivalent will be assumed. Exceptionally, students from other disciplines with a strong quantitative background may be considered.
Learning outcomes:
Participants acquire advanced knowledge in the economic analysis of the emergence and effects of global externalities, with a focus on greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, measures to curb greenhouse gas emissions are presented and compared. Students are able to analyse climate policy related issues using economic methods and assess policy measures from an economic perspective.
